The Sunset Vale
The Sunset Vale is located between the Trielta Hills to the west and the Sunset Mountains to the east. It's a place of green grass and rolling hills.
Corm Orp
This small road-hamlet lies west of the Sunset Mountains on the Dusk Road east of Hills Edge.4 Here, in the lengthening shadow of Darkhold, halflings and a few humans produce the bulk of the food consumed in the nearby city of Hills Edge.
Hill's Edge
This is a quick summary about Hill's Edge - things that every adventurer and inhabitants of Hill's Edge would know. For a more detailed background, look in Volo's Guide to the Sword Coast
History
• The citys name comes from a long-dead adventurer, the halfling warrior Uldobris Downhill. He found rich iron in the red eastern bank of the River Reaching here and took on gnome partners to build and maintain pumps to keep the river waters from flooding his mine, which was dubbed the Edge because it was always on the brink of flooding.
• In the seventh year, the waters came in. The flooded, unstable tunnels of the Edge still lie beneath the city and no one knows what dangers lurk in the dark waters.
The Four Gates
• The Rivergate - The oldest part of the city is the Rivergate. Here you will find a market open during the days, the bent bow, a fishmarket and a shrine to Tymora. It's also one of the entrances to the dungeons below the city that connects to "Old Edge", the barracks and the prisons.
• The Clasped Hands Gate - Sometimes called the center of the vale. Within reach of the popular Scarlet Stag, the fancy Happy Hippocampus, a general store and access to the other gates, the Clasped Hands Gate is a natural meetingspot for adventurers and travelers.
• The Reaching Gate - To the east you will find the Reaching Gate. This is home for the upper class, merchants and ambassadors. It also hosts the large temple to Lliira and the infamous former temple to Cyric that now stands empty as a stain in the rich district.
• The Vale gate - Also called Shantytown. Shantytown is considered to be the poor and crowded part of the city. At night, Shantytown bursts into life and becomes a sprawling and colorful place.
• The North - Not a gate, but an important location that houses two of the major merchant houses and several shops. The majority of the privileged citizens live here.
The Trader's League
There are three major trading companies in Hill's Edge. Silverbough Trademasters, Ten Hammers Trading Coster, Black Arrow Company.
• Silverbough Trademasters - Sometimes called "the Apothecary", they are the main suppliers of alchemical potions and serviceable equipment within and without Hill's Edge, encouraging the practice of treasure hunting and peddling components and artifacts that the common folk wouldn't touch with the tip of their fingers.
• Ten Hammers Trading Coster - Their interest for prospecting, digging and smelting never waned and many in Hill's Edge regard the company as the never-resting furnace that keeps the city laden with adventurers and wealth. The Ten Hammers are well known for their widespread trading of weapons and armors.
• Black Arrow Company - Originally a modest trading company, dealing primarily in tanned furs and meat, it recently grew into a full-blown business, both maintaining its original core and additionally specializing in capturing rare or dangerous beasts, both dead and alive.
Inns & Taverns
• Six Soft Furs - This house of pleasure is famous Valewide for its luxuries, wanton escorts, and flavored syrup baths that are rarely
enjoyed alone.
• Happy Hippocampus - Its one of the best in western Faerûn, complete with an attentive liveried staff who pamper guests personally, a hot communal tub with scented water (clouded with lavender to preserve the modesty of bathers), and food among the best anywhere.
• Scarlet Stag - This Inn is of the smokefilled, rowdy, rustic sort. Prospectors and adventurers are swapping stories of their bravery, close escapes, and latest finds in the Netherese ruins north and east of the city.
• Tin Tankard - A rowdy tavern most active at night. The Tin Tankard often attract opportunists, outcasts and those who don't feel welcome in a polite society.
Religious Places
• The Cry of Joy - Temple dedicated to Lliira. It's located by the Reaching Gate, close to the Mayors tower.
• The Fist of the Future - A temple sacred to Cyric. It's on the opposite side of the Cry of Joy also close to the Reaching Gate.
• Old Sharp Sword - A shrine to Tempus close to the Mayors Tower
• Kiss of the lady - This is a small shrine to Tymora close to the Rivergate.
Noteable Shops
• A Handful of Eyes - A Handful of Eyes is probably the most reliable of the monster shops in Hills Edge that is, it can most quickly supply a particular beast, dead or alive, to a purchaser, and it carries a larger stock than competitors.
• Lionstar Services - For modest fees, the experienced packers here will securely pack and seal all sorts of small shipments (precious or fragile items, for instance) for caravan travel all over Toril.
• The Knight in the Morn - This proud, colorful shop sells suits of armor, some of which look very grand. They vary from mediocre (the
source of the old wisecrack: "Ah, Sir Rustbucket. Knighted in Hills Edge, I presume?") to not bad.
• Belkins Black Blade - In contrast to the haughty splendor of
the Knight in the Morn, this place is a down-to-earth, hard-core weapons shop crammed with racks of swords, daggers, maces, morning stars, war hammers, spears, arrows, bolts, and battle axes.
• Bent Bows - This is one of the best archery shops: a bright place where one can buy any size of bow or crossbow.
