Welcome to Hill's Edge! Our goal here is to maintain a new and unique outlook on the Forgotten Realms Campaign setting, set within the Sunset Vale and focused around the town of Hill's Edge. With our server, we strive to provide all players with a narrative driven experience, and a setting to write their own stories in. With the responsibility to maintain that standard staff side, comes the responsibility of the player base to provide their share of help in making this server welcoming, enjoyable, and rewarding for all.
Rules:
1) Have fun, but not at the expense of others:
This is self explanatory, really. The setting is here for you to enjoy yourself and have fun. Play your character the way they should be played, and get involved in the setting. Have fun, but do not do it in a way that you are intentionally trying to ruin the fun of others.
2) Be kind to your fellow Roleplayers:
Another simple rule, but it should be put in play anyway. Moments in the setting may get severely dramatic or intense. It can be a scary, dark environment and it is easy to get caught up into the heat of an intense scene. But remember, at the end of the day, other players are real people behind the screens of their computers. Whether they are players or the staff, do not harass or abuse these people. They are your family here, and we expect you to be civil with your fellow players. This will be addressed by the staff.
3) PKing and PvP:
To maintain the integrity of the setting and the immersion of the server, upon logging into Hill's Edge you are stating that you have read and accept the terms of our rules, and understand that you are agreeing to participate in Player Versus Player content. Hill's Edge is a server that maintains a full PVP environment, allowing players to engage in this part of the setting anywhere. While there are places it might not be sensible to do so, it is still enabled on the whole of the server. Player Versus Player content can be rewarding, and is expected to be thoroughly roleplayed leading to, during, and following. Encounters will be observed, and the world will react. No action is without consequence!
With that being said, abuse of the player versus player system will not be tolerated either. Griefing a player, killing them for out of character reasons, or metagaming by logging onto another character to attack a player are bannable offenses. If you engage in PVP, you are expected to handle it maturely, and stay logged in for the duration of the encounter. Situations where the staff or a player feels that an encounter was not properly handled can be brought to the staff for review.
4) OOC Chat:
We understand that there are times when OOC chat is appropriate. Usually, it is only appropriate when you are announcing something, such as being afk, or you are leaving. All OOC chat must be noted as such with a prefix such as // or ((. We also ask that you keep much of your out of character discussion in tells, as it is courteous to the other players and DMs. Please respect that some people just do not want to hear OOC chat.
5) Exploiting In-Game Systems:
This is pertaining to exploiting any systems or bugs in the module. Just don't do it. If you find exploits or bugs in game, please post them on the forums, or message a DM. If it is an easily abused exploit, please do not detail the process for performing it on the forums, and instead message a staff member for it to be reviewed. Please do not utilize any of our custom content in any way that breaks the rules of the server.
6) Classes:
Please refer to the Player's Guide to Hill's Edge to review all current banned classes and class combinations.
- 6A) Races:
Please refer to the Player's Guide to Hill's Edge to review all current racial selections available. As of the current iteration of this ruleset, only the core races of Neverwinter Nights are supported and approved for play, with the various subraces detailed in the Player's Guide being offered.
7) Metagaming:
Most of you should be familiar with this rule by now. Knowledge or information used in-character when there is no possible way for your character to know, picking up items with a new character after your old character died, or RPing something that is out of your abilities in game are all examples of metagaming. Metagaming is HIGHLY frowned upon here, and in some cases, a bannable offense. Metagamers will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
In addition, under this rule we also restrict players from returning to any dungeon that they have died and respawned in until the next server reset. If you are forced to respawn in a dungeon, your PC is not permitted to return to that same dungeon until the server restarts, nor will they remember the last 30 minutes (in real life time) of events. This is to avoid people farming a dungeon, or otherwise exploiting any knowledge that would be lost to the effects of death. We expect severe death to be roleplayed, no matter what.
8) Ninja-Looting:
Ninja looting is expressly forbidden on the server. This is the act of looting containers or monsters or such without clearing the area. This counts whether it is done in stealth, or while another party or the rest of your party is performing combat. If you are not cleaning up the spawns and defeating the enemies, you are not entitled to the loot in the dungeon. This is to prevent abuse of the looting and monster system, and a massive increase in player wealth that was not rightfully earned.
This rule as well extends to any behavior that includes simply sneaking past spawns to clear only a single enemy and reap the benefit. While sneaking is allowed in dungeons for the purpose of scouting for your party, it is not allowed to simply navigate through a dungeon unscathed without participating in it. If you enter a dungeon, the intention should be to clear it and explore it naturally, not to target specific portions.
9) Powergaming:
While we allow you the freedom to build and roleplay your character as you would like under the limitations set on the server, Powergaming is heavily discouraged here on Hill's Edge. This includes powerleveling other players, farming for experience and items on a constant basis in any manner that abuses the systems, and other similar behaviors, as well as behaviors that tie into metagaming such as using alternate characters to attack players for benefit.
10) Twinking / Muling / Griefing:
- "Twinking" is when you give items to lower level characters, especially when shared between your own characters and accounts.
- "Muling" is a similar offense, except that it is when you hold items for another player wishing to rebuild or remake his character.
- "Griefing" is causing needless distress to players through abuse of the systems, mechanics, or player themselves for no viable reason. Griefing can be performed both In Character and Out of Character, and is against the rules in both situations.
All three are against our rules.
- With our current system in place that allows your character to be looted upon death, we do consider it griefing to kill players strictly to loot their equipment. All such engagements fall under the Player Vs Player rules, and will be subject to such encounter rules, in addition to griefing rules. While the option to rob a player is not against the rules as written, such instances should be roleplayed, and not be the sole focus of your character so as to cause issue. Any instance of this behavior will be reviewed by the staff.
11) Intimate Roleplay / Adult Themes:
- Intimate Roleplay is permitted as this is an adult server and we expect everyone to be of legal age logging into Hill's Edge. This server will utilize adult themes and some adult character models. With this being said, please remember that this is -not- a Social Server. Players have the choice to cultivate a relationship and the freedom to do so as we understand this is a large part of any story, but we must also respect the players who don't wish to see those kind of things. Also remember that all actions have consequences, and if your characters are caught doing something questionable in public, they will be reacted to appropriately.
IC only exists upon OOC consent, so be considerate when involving others and respect one another's boundaries. If a player expresses OOC or IC that there is something they are uncomfortable with, you are expected to respect that. It never hurts to check first. No player is required to use, watch, or be involved with Adult content. It is purely optional. Non-consensual acts are considered PvP, and follow those same rules. Absolutely no child characters are allowed in the server, and that is extra stressed for adult content. Rape related roleplay is strictly against the rules of the server, consensual or otherwise. Torture is allowed by consent of both parties only, and need not be roleplayed out if one side does not wish.
12) Stay in character at all times.
As this is a roleplay server foremost, we try to encourage all of our players to stay in character at all times. This means that we ask you to behave in an in character, realistic manner. Please avoid behavior like constant running, holding your weapons out all the time, and behaving in a manner that acts as if there are no NPCs. This is a living world, and it should be thought to be reacting to you appropriately. There are people around that are not always represented by a character model.
13) Do Not Log Out To Avoid Death
This rule goes hand in hand with our metagaming and powergaming rules. If you are logging out to avoid the results of death, you will be reprimanded for behaviors and forcibly respawned upon your next login. There are always consequences to death, as there might also be chances to narrowly escape it.
14) Child Roleplay is not Allowed.
As this is the life of an adventurer or a PC that is/could often be going into mortal danger, we do not allow the roleplay of any characters under the official age of adulthood for their race. Pregnancy can be used only as a tool to retire your character, or take a break from said character. You character -is- allowed to have children, but these children will not be played unless a DM would like to do so to enhance your character's story.
15) Use of Spells Such as Detect Evil/Alignment, Telepathy, Long Range Scrying Are to be Used Under DM Supervision Only
For the sake of maintaining a strong sense of reality in the setting, any of these spells are restricted only to be used with DM approval and supervision, and are otherwise not allowed.
16) Avoid Use Of Party Chat
Please avoid use of the party channel except for a quick emergency shout to your group, or otherwise unless requested. Otherwise, please use tells for OOC conversation. The party channel pings the DM channel directly, and can often spam out our client when we are using it.
17) Avoid Odd Appearances
When crafting your character, clothing and equipment, please avoid any appearances that are blatantly outlandish, or extremely uncommon. Any such appearances are restricted only to DM use, or outright banned as part of the setting. This includes Lightsabers, Energy Shields, Tails and Wings (exceptions made for the RDD), Mermaid Bodies, Missing Body Part Appearances, Satyr or similarly curved legs, and Mithral Small Shields. The staff reserves the right to have a player remake any item that has been crafted into a banned or restricted item.
18) Use Common Sense:
Every person here is expected to generally get along, keep in character, and play nice. Remember, this is just a game and we are writing a story together in it. Please act with maturity, tact and taste. If something seems like you would potentially get in trouble for it, or blatantly against the rules, there is a good chance that it is. Reach out to the staff, do not just perform something and assume the consequences. As all players are required to read these rules, and by logging in are confirming that they have done so, the use of "I didn't read the rules." or any variation of it will not be accepted.
As we have said, these rules are required to have been read and understood before logging into the server. Read them, and re-read them. Recall them upon every login. We are trying to craft a community and an experience that bring the setting together for us all, and immerse us into a rich player experience. Just as you have rules to abide by, so too does our staff. It takes both sides to create a successful experience.
Get out there and have fun.
